How to choose the right trash bag size
A bag labeled “60 liters” can turn out too small for a 50-liter bin, or too big. The liter rating measures volume, but the bag fits the bin by width. So check both numbers.
Step 1. Measure your bin
You need two numbers: the circumference of the top rim and the height. The bag’s width should be a bit more than half the circumference, and its length should equal the bin’s height plus 15–20 cm for folding over the edge and tying.
Step 2. Check the standard sizes
- Office bin, bathroom — 45×55 or 50×60 cm (up to 35 L).
- Kitchen bin — 55×60 or 60×70 cm (35–60 L).
- Large bin, café container — 65×80 or 70×90 cm (60–120 L).
- Outdoor and warehouse containers — 80×110, 90×110 cm and up (120–240 L).
Step 3. Choose the thickness
Standard bags are fine for paper and light household waste. For food waste, glass, and construction debris, go with heavy-duty bags — they’re thicker and won’t tear on sharp edges.
